After World War II, the first modern computers were produced. Most of these were expensive and required specialized engineering to operate. Only advanced nations, cold war military powers, and international corporations had access to these machines. Through the 1960 and into the early 1970's advances in manufacturing, elctronics and computer technology such as the transistor brought forth smaller, lower-priced and more powerful computers. These "minicomputers" found their way into medium sized businesses, smaller government agencies, and university departments.
